Designing for Developers
You do not need to become a professional designer to build interfaces that feel thoughtful, clear, and intentional.

Most developers think design is about aesthetics — about making things look nice. It is not. Design is about communication. A well-designed interface communicates clearly.
The Rules That Matter Most
- Use spacing generously — white space is not empty space
- Limit your type scale to 4-5 sizes
- Pick one accent color and use it with restraint
- Align everything — random alignment looks amateur
- Reduce, then reduce again — remove anything the user does not need
Type Scale Reference
| Role | Size | Weight | Usage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display | 32-48px | Bold | Hero headlines, section titles |
| Heading | 20-28px | Semibold | Card titles, modal headers |
| Body | 14-16px | Regular | Paragraphs, descriptions |
| Small | 11-12px | Medium | Labels, captions, metadata |
| Micro | 9-10px | Medium | Tags, badges, timestamps |

Tools That Help
- Figma — design before you build, always
- Coolors.co — fast, harmonious color palette generation
- Fontpair.co — find font combinations that work
- Refactoring UI (book) — the best design resource for developers
Good design is not magic. It is the result of applying a small number of principles consistently. Start there, and the aesthetics will follow.
